Title: New to me '05 KLR650
Post by: Son of Pappy on May 19, 2011, 11:20:17 PM
Well, I done gone and done it.  I am hoping Connie wont be too jealous, the first time we come home and she sees just how nasty she looks I should be OK.

I'm looking for some thoughts on color, the PO painted it black, said the red was fading to pink.  I'm torn between white, forrest green, or a quallity black.  Whatcha think?  I'll also be building some brackets so I can hang some old oversized ammo cans off the side, have a coupla spare 2 ltr fuel cans, fire extig., assorted first aide stuff, and comms to go along with the Zumo.  Heated grips will be the first farkle added followed by a set of bark busters.  They should be on this Saturday.

Dakar, here I come  8)
And no, the 14 stays, just need a bigger stable.

Dang, that sounds like more luggage than that KLR could carry, but I'm sure you'll set it up just right.. When you mention fuel cans and ammo boxes,
sounds like you're going to be running fire roads/ dirt paths. If that's the case, camo comes to mind, or as you listed, forrest green, with a little white
here and there, for the woods effect. Congratulations and wishing you many miles with smiles!!

Real nice.   I have an 07.
A few things that the KLR needs for long service, and main one is attention to the balancer chain mechanism, otherwise known as the Doo-Hickey.

Good luck to ye.

I'll be doing the "Doo" soon enough, list of farkles to date, .22 mod, slide drilled, bark busters, FMF Q4 pipe, Trail Tech Voyager and LED driving lights, and a set of cleated pegs.  First DS ride will be Saturday, dooing the Hoh Rainforest Ride with ALT Rider.  I should get lots of pics, we will cover about 100 miles of off road stuff..

Here's the one I had two bikes ago.  Just got finished with the farkles and traded it in on a Road King.

Black for the bike and then Rhino line some 48 round MK-19 ammo cans.  That would be a tough looking bike.
