I work in a Windows shop, but for personal use I switched to a Mac. 2015 may be the year to take another look at Microsoft, they are coming out with some cool :censored:

Hanselman blogs about some of it here: http://www.hanselman.com/blog/RollupMicrosoftHoloLensSurfaceHubWindows10XboxOneGameStreamingAndMore.aspx (http://www.hanselman.com/blog/RollupMicrosoftHoloLensSurfaceHubWindows10XboxOneGameStreamingAndMore.aspx)

I bought a Windows 8.1 2 in 1 laptop earlier this year, so I was pleasantly surprised to see that Windows 8 users will be getting free upgrades to Windows 10 on the early morning news this morning!

At work we have a mix of windows 7 and 8 computers. I think Microsoft should offer to switch windows 8 machines to 7 for free. 8 seems like a toy, not a tool. Much less friendly for the office related tasks I need. Fortunately I'm usually on an older machine.

I'm running 8.1 with Start8 software (look and feel of Win7).  Haven't had a bit of worry with it at all.  I'm pleased with 8.1, but I'm not into the tile stuff much at all.  I do like the photo editor, though.

Win8 is not as bad as most people think, but it isn't great.  8.1 was a bit better, but we're still back to the MS standard of every other release being being crap.  I still don't get the reasoning behind skipping Win9, but whatever.  I have Win 8 on a system at home - actually paid for a copy to see what the hoopla was about.  It's workable, but I guess to me, all they needed to do to make more people happy was to include a full desktop mode instead of forcing everyone to an entirely new interafce.  it seems pretty stable, but things are hard to find for what seems like no reason.

Along with that, I refuse to pay the "Mac Tax" (sounds like the Harley Tax to me), they charge way too much for their stuff, and honestly, the couple times I've been at a Mac, they don't seem as intuitive as they claim.  dealing with the wife's iPhone is bad enough for me.  I build my own systems and usually have a Winbox and a linux one.

The reason for skipping 9 is because they think it will cause confusion with Win 98.

I don't see it, but we are talking Microbloat.

It had to do with some older software that would check for Windows version Win 9x and didn't care what came after the 9. Apparently it was a big enough issue they decide to skip 9 and go directly to 10.
I can't wait, but I'm a die-hard like that.

Still kind of missing Windows 95.
I have windows 8 or 8.1 in this laptop, but I use the classic Windows 7 screen. I think Windows 7 pro is better.

Well, seems like some good news - Win10 will be a free upgrade for 7 and 8.1 users....
