Title: Highway pegs for the C-10
Post by: snarf on May 12, 2011, 05:35:10 AM
If your looking to add a few more miles to your ride than this is a must have farkel.  High-way pegs allow you to stretch out your legs and it helps prevent your knees from stiffening up.
I had originally mentioned I would be making the pegs out of high strength aluminum. I changed my mind on that, the pegs themselves are still alum but the main support/connecting rods are steel.  The hwy-pegs can be powder-coated in damn near any color you choose including clear coat or chrome Lips Sealed.  I currently am using a gloss or a flat black.
I have two styles available. 1) The VC (vertically challenged)
                                                  2) Standard Model
The pegs mount into a factory bolt hole. Remove the radiator support bolt and screw in the stud at the end of the pegs.  You do have to do some modifying to the internal heat shields; but this is true of any high-way pegs you are installing.  None of the 'internal' modifications can be seen from the outside nor does it affect the bike in anyway. The pegs are grooved and knurled for anti-slip protection.
This a pic of the VC 'vertically challenged' mount.  I am right at 6'0 and they still feel great.  This mounting location moves the pegs back around 2-3".  Since the set that I made for myself I have cleaned up the squared edges on the clevis block. You do have to drill a hole into your fairing for the VC model; although it does It does look professional/factory when completed

The Standard model requires no cutting of the fairing for 94 and up bikes.
This pic is for demonstration purposes only. It is showing the mounting location for the Standard set.

standard set

The VC units MAY help prevent damage in the event of a low speed drop (DAMHIK)

I can only presume that the Standard set would give the same amount of protection (not tested so i cannot guarantee this).

VC set: $100.00 shipped Cont US
Standard set $140.00 shipped Cont US

I can coat all hardware with just about any color that you desire.  Here are some of the samples that I do have on hand:

As a plus for Snarf, I ordered the block off plates a little while back, they came in just a few days with good instructions, the pegs are next.  And when his computer crashed he lost the records showing he had sent mine, he sent two emails confirming I had received them and if not he was going to send a set ASAP.  Good retailer, great ethics, great products.

Dan, I would venture to guess that the regular (standard) set would be just fine for you.  To take any of the guess work out; put your bike on its center stand, stretch out your legs.  If they COMFORTABLY extend past the the first louvered opening of the lower fairing then the standard set is OK for you.

No problem Jet. I realize this is a risk; buying from a newbie  :rotflmao:
Do you have a color preference? I just want to make sure I have what you want when your ready.

EDIT: WOW I just noticed that I'm a Jr. Member.  Now it's not such a financial risk. As an official Jr. Member I guarantee that you will enjoy the added comfort of the pegs many times over.

Well, I guess its very safe to buy from the Jr. Member...that newbie status had me worried. Do you have green?

Believe it or  not, lime might work.  I'll try and remember to post pics of the bike sometime.

I think I might just stay black, to match the other pegs...

Anyone like the matched color or the black better??

The primary color of pegs has been black.  I have done a few in dark grey.  The ones that got the dark grey like them a lot.
Now, do you have a choice of blk? Flat, semi gloss, high gloss, or mirror blk?

I am interested in a set in Flat (Satin) Black.  I am also 6'0 with a 34" inseam so I guess from what I read you would recommend the regulars.  I run pearl nekked so there will be no mod  regardless.

Also I must have missed payment info.  I would like to get them asap as I have an ironbutt ride coming up before nationals. I will also pm you.

Some pictures and directions for Snarf's Highway pegs.

First remove the lower and side fairings. and the the lower heat shield.

Then remove the mid radiator frame bolt.

install the bolt for to replace the frame bolt, use a 9/16 box wrench.

Cut a hole in the lower shield, now you can cut out just what you need or cut a semi circle in the shield.

Install the plate at a nice downward angle making sure it's not too far down as to prevent it from going through the fairing.

Install the peg and replace the plastics.

More pictures with the pegs installed after a ride coming soon.

On a side note, Snarf told me and later I proved, the fairing can be slipped on over the pegs so they don't need to be removed when removing and installing the fairings.  This install was done on a 90 Connie.  As far as a review I love them, its great to get my legs out from behind the fairing and related heat.  And the color matches what I have done to the inner fairings.

I thought that was just a bad flash of a camera, SNARF you shouldnt be allowed to make pegs so purty that color :)  Jk Jet if you inner fairings are that color I wanna see them.  On a sidenote, the pegs I got from you SNARF are really nice and I'm loving them.

YoDoc, do you have any specific questions that I might be able to answer?  I will try to get some pics taken in the next few days.  We are swamped at work so I cant promise anything.  It might not happen until the weekend.
I am probably the worlds worst salesman; I still have version .1 VC's on my '02 and I have Millerized pegs on the '86.  The Millerized pegs will more than likely stay on the '86 out of respect for the builder.
Let me know if there is anything I can do for you.

Ok, its the center stand, they function great, I have taken her pretty far over with these on and if they hit the ground the pegs fold up the way they are supposed to.  If Snarf doesn't beat me to it I'll take some pictures while out today and post them tonight.

I'm just wanting to see where the legs go in regards to the foot scoops and the fairings, so I can get a better idea of the actual position of my legs when/if I bought these, vs. engine guards. Honestly, after this weekend though, I think I'm probably going to put off the highway pegs until I do murph's lowering pegs. My left knee is KILLING me, and most of my riding is around town/commuting anyway...

I'll tell ya what; I dont make very many things for other people that I am envious of.  This is one for the records.  I do believe that I am going to have to find some pegs from a GL 1500/1800 and move my pegs forward.
Damn these things look comfortable...

It looks like the pictures of a rider using the pegs have been removed...

Are these comfortable with the handlebars at stock height?  I'm 6'2 and don't wanna end up folding myself in half on the highway if you need risers on your handlebars to make the pegs work right  ;D

I cannot speak for every one as to what is 'comfortable'.
I have the pegs on my 86 and on my 02. That is one extreme to the other. My 86 has shortened bars, the 02 has 1.75" bar risers; I feel both are very comfortable.

Hi Snarf, longtime motorcyclist but noob C10 owner here.  Just picked up an '03 C10, nice bike but it needs highway pegs.  I'm interested in a set of your VC highway pegs, but one thing I was wondering.   I've searched and searched, couldn't find the answer- how do you get the fairing off around the pegs, if you need to?  Other than that I'd love to get a set of those in gloss black.  I'll try to PM you regarding payment and shipping details.  Thanks Snarf!

No problems removing the fairing. The hole, even with the rubber gromets is slightly larger than the pegs and clevis. Just remove the screws and it will slip right off.
To be honest this is sorta a bad time with work and the rally just around the corner. It is a long weekend so I may be able to work a little magic. I will keep you posted.
Thanks for your interest.

Well thank you Snarf but if this is a busy time then don't worry about it for now- and you should get to enjoy your holiday weekend too!  The bike is new to me, maybe I should just try it like it is and see how I like it.  The stock foot pegs are certainly much bigger and more comfortable than what I have on the EX!

Just wanted to give a big "Thank You" to Snarf, for rushing out a set of his highway pegs (and block-off plates).   They look great, and the installation is almost done.  (Yea they're the "VC" ones, and I'm about to "take the plunge" with the hole saw.  :yikes:  Nah,,, it doesn't look that bad!)   I was doing the valve adjustment on the bike anyway so Connie was in the perfect state of undress,  ;) and the top end looks sooo much better without all that hose clutter.  Nice products, thanks Snarf!   :chugbeer:

 well thats how I felt when I put the pilot bit through the plastic for the first time.  The other side feels like you have been doing it all your life.  remember measure twice and cut once  :-[
Also THANK YOU for the kind words

A little follow-up... Snarf your highway pegs really saved the day on our trip to Tennessee a couple of weeks ago.  The ankles were getting a little hot ( :o) while riding in full gear in 102 degree weather.  (Like, blistering!)  So it was really nice to be able to move my feet out of the burn zone and onto the highway pegs, it helped a lot.  Thanks again Snarf!

Title: Snarf!!!! Your pegs are deer proof.
Post by: Nemo on October 13, 2012, 01:52:37 AM
Had my first run in with a deer last week. The deer came out of nowhere and it happened so fast. all I could do was hang on. I just rode it out and came to a stop. I didn't go down.  The deer hit me right in front of your peg and ripped everything that was bolted on the right side of the bike Off. I didn't know the parts were ripped off till I turned around. Saddle bag, the little scoop by the right leg.  Man what a mess all the way around. I feel your pegs saved my right leg from getting smashed. I was doing around 50 mph.

I hope to be able to use both my arms in the near future and be able to get back into making things again.
Im glad that you made it through the experience safe.

Going to try and send out money this week, need to get some before my June ride to the Dragon.
I rode my 2016 C14 to the Dragon last August vis Devils Tower and Sturgis!!  Across SD to Iowa and then Missouri, Kansas, and Tennessee. Rode the Tail of the Dragon below Knoxville and after stopping at the Deals Gap store to buy a T Shirt headed back through Chattanooga, Memphis, Arkansas, OK, Texas Panhandle and then home to Albuquerque. 4600 and a couple of miles in 8 days. AND, I had highway pegs that were a life saver. You will not regret getting them. Enjoy.

Hi there, are these still available?
If not, has anyone found alternatives or have new/used sets for sale?
I'm in the UK so if by chance you have them, I'd need them shipping, thanks! 😁
