C14 drive on C10?
« on: January 18, 2012, 11:37:24 AM »
Does anyone know if the splines of Connie are the same as on the C14?
I have seen a few bargains on C14 diffs / swingarms and want to know if it has been done / or  is possible?

I would seriously doubt it - but have you ever heard of a 7th gear unit for the c-10? Steve

Possible? Probably. With enough $$$$$, lots of things are "possible".

Reasonable? Not.

Hi steve, yes have heard / read about the 7th gear mod. Very good idea and seems to be holding up well over miles and time. Well done. Its that sort of "what if " or "I wonder if" mentality that I admire and try to emulate.
As I posted, I have seen some 14 swingarms and shaft units for sale at reasonable prices, so I wondered if it was feasable to do a whole 14 rear end mod?
I know that some ZG1000' have had ZZR12 shocks and ZG14 shocks fitted - so if the shaft rings are compatible why not fit a wheel and swinger?
This would maybe be an alternative to the Meanstreak wheel mod?

Fitting a shock or wheel is a very simple matter requiring very little by way of modding if any to install. Whereas installing the swing arm to the frame if not a direct match in design would likely require highly complex redesign just at the pivot point; this does not take into account that the 14 also uses a torque reaction swing arm that has its own special requirements.

Taking a quick look reveals that the drive tube is outboard of the swinging arm and pivot points whereas the drive tube on the C10 is inboard of the pivot points this can not be worked around.

Not going to work......

Thanks for the reply T Cro - i had not been able to see a GTR14 swinger up close to see how it works.
Never mind - the search for mods goes on!

Exactly...... How do you think we have been able to come up with the mods that we have? Simple we look at the cool stuff newer or other bikes have and we set out to see if it can be done.

yup, now if we could just get rid of those darn spark plug wires and get some fancy stick coils, and maybe even a FI C-10.  That would be sweet....oh wait, never-mind.  :chugbeer:
