New "Old" Connie Rider here
« on: July 30, 2017, 04:36:52 PM »
Hey folks, after about 2 decades of riding, I've traded around and ended up with my first Concours.
It's a 2006 with about 52k miles on it, in very good condition.
I traded a very nicely setup 2006 KLR 650 for it, which I regret, but this was a compromise to get my wife interested in bikes again after having a baby. She had an old Honda that needed some work to be reliable, so we sold that, and yesterday was her first time on a bike since before she got pregnant. Now our kid is almost a year old, and we plan to ride together a little more, when we can get someone to watch the little guy.
Yesterday she rode with me about 200 miles, and I rode another 200 alone. I think it's a step in the right direction.
We're planning to ride some of the Blue Ridge Parkway in September, and we'll ride to Birmingham, AL from Nashville in October to go to the Barber Vintage Festival, which we attend every year.
Hopefully before long we can get her another bike, and myself another dual sport or dirt bike.
But I reckon I'll keep the Connie. I like it so far as a commuter and road trip machine. :D
It's all stock, with some brand new Avon Storm XM tires on it, which so far hold the road quite well, and show no wear yet, after 1500 miles. I don't really ride easy, either. The foot pegs meet the pavement just about every time I ride, and I shift at 10k pretty regularly.
Anyway, thanks for reading, and thanks in advance for any advice to keep this thing running as good as possible.

Thanks! I'd love to post a photo of this beast, but can't figure out how to get it under the size requirement.

Thanks for the welcome, folks!
Yesterday I rode another 300 miles, and I commute about 600 miles a week for work, so that makes 1300 miles in the past week, and another 600 before that. Before my KLR (which didn't see as much commuting duty), I did 90% of my running around on a Moto Guzzi Breva 750, which got about 30k miles a year for a little over 5 years, and before that I had an old 79' kz1000, an '80 yamaha xs850, an '05 yamaha R1, a '75 Honda cb750f, a '72 Honda cb350, a '92 ninja 250, a '95 ninja 250, and a plated KDX 220r.
And various dirtbikes, mopeds, and scooters before all that.
I ride quite a bit, and sometimes with gusto. Kawasakis have served me well in the past, and I hope this one is no exception. I have a car and 2 pickup trucks, but for my commute, I prefer to ride a bike when I can, to save fuel and time.

Welcome!  I too came off a KLR 650 (2011 model) which I bought new and switched over to a slightly used 2011 Concours with 14K on the odo.  Doing so just this past Wednesday.  I was sad to see my very reliable KLR go, but I'm loving every second on the Connie!!
