Nice ride around Montana
« on: August 18, 2016, 10:18:07 AM »
I talked a buddy out of his annual Sturgis trip and did a Mt ride instead. Eastern ND to Red Lodge first day. Second day over Beartooth, into Yellowstone and out the east side to Cody and back to camp in Red Lodge. Third day back through Beartooth and out West Yellowstone and up BitterRoot valley. Stayed in a cabin in Darby. Fourth day took us to West Glacier and did the Ride to the Sun road and then back out on the plains of Hwy 2 and over to Havre for the night. Havre to home on the fifth day. Met HP 3 different times without even a tap of the brake lights. Beautiful country and roads, especially for a North Dakota boy. It was the first time I got to usethe 14 in some twisties. I am no peg dragger but I had a good time trying. 2500 miles in 5 days with an average of 41 mpg according to my log. Mileage was great at the higher elevations.

Sweet! Bear tooth is one of the best rides on the planet. I've never done the highway to the sun but I will some day. Also nice Valk with you. My bother lives in Whitehall MT and rides a Valk. Nice pics, thanks for sharing.

I agree about Beartooth. First time through we hit rain and 41 degrees. Actually a lot of the morning temps were in the low 40's but it didn't feel as cols as 40's on the plains.

Do you still have the 1974 Z-1? I still have mine after 42 years.

Mine is being stored at my son's while I tour the country working with my company and I ride the C-14. He will also inherit my 1969 Z/28 DZ302 with 8560 miles that I've had for 45 years.
