Some J-Box problems can prevent starting. Next time it doesn't start, just bash the J-Box a bit, see if that does it. Fiddling with the fuses may have accomplished the same thing.
There may be dodgy solder connections or relays that need to be replaced.

Clean the fuse contacts.

Dirty contacts in the starter button?

Also, check the tension of the contact tabs in the fuse holders. I had one of the fuse holder tabs (contacts) get loose and it melted my J-box. When I repaired it, I squeezed them all so they would grip the fuse tabs and the soldered tabs on the circuit board real tight. I'll try to attach a pic of the damage.

Same problem for me was loose battery cable bolts... Simple, but it made me crazy, being so intermittent in nature.
