Toyota Yaris coolant change question

(1/3) > >>

George R. Young:
I know, it's not a motorcycle, but it's almost as small.

After 10 years, I'm supposed to change the antifreeze. There are supposed to be 2 drain plugs (see pic), one for the radiator, one for the block.

Found the one on the rad. Can't find the one on the block.

Anybody can point me in the right direction?

gPink:
Looks like it's just to the left of the 'Radiator Cap Sub-Assembly'.

sorry George, couldn't help it  :)

George R. Young:
Ho, ho, ho. 'Tis the season to be jolly.

So I trudged down into the dark garage again to answer my own question.

The block drain cock location in the manual is just a hint. It means 'somewhere on the block to the left of the Radiator Cap'. In actuality, it means 'on the back of the engine block, conveniently under the exhaust headers'. I can snake my left hand in there but can't see the thing from any angle.

It seems further planning is necessary.

Cholla:
Just drain, flush, drain and refill. Don't over think it.

VirginiaJim:
I wouldn't worry about the one on the block.  Do what Cholla says to do.  Or you might be able to get one of those Prestone flush kits that go in the heater lines (I think).  It's been years since I used one of those, though.
