Triumph Sprint or Trophy
« on: September 10, 2014, 07:46:03 PM »
So I have been thinking of moving from my old C10 to a 14. The only thing is,well, I just dont like the looks of them all that much ::).  The above bikes do interest me though I have never seen one. Any one have any experiences they want to share? Especially interested in how it compares to a C10 in riding position and wind protection. Thanks.

What year sprint and trophy are you considering?  The name is the same but the bikes have changed over the years much like the Concours.

Other than Kawasaki, Triumph is the one company that makes an assortment of bikes that I could find in my garage in the future.

I am not sure. I will be buying used and want ABS. Looking at a $7 to 10,000. I think the 14 is probaley the most bang for the buck but the Triumphs look pretty nice and have heard some great things about them. Nothing else out there in my price range really interests me at all.

I would stay away from the Trophy's... from what I've read and heard.  All kinds of cam tensioner problems.

Any of the VFR's, other than the "abomination" that was called a VFR. ;)

A fellow I know rides a Sprint. He had an older one and now has a new one. Loves it, but he's British, so what does he know? ;) The bike is lighter than the 14, and good, not great ( 900 CC I believe), power and a more aggressive riding position - that would rule me out. He bought an older Trophy, thinking it would be better for touring. He found it heavy and no power so he sold it quick. Don't know about the new ones, but you won't find one cheap.

The new Trophys used are still around $14,000.  The Sprint 1050s are nice, but the undertail exhaust can get hot and don't think you can use a trunk with them.  Don't like the chain drive either for touring.

Haven't heard about cam chain tensioner issues, but I'm sure if they are legit someone will come out with a manual cam chain adjuster like the DRZ400 community did.

I might have to get to like the looks of the 14 better ;)  I still like my C10 but like some of the safty features of the 14 such as ABS. Thanks for the input.

Hi,
I looked at the Sprint. It's a nice bike, but the riding position and the power I did not like where in these areas on the C14 I thought was great!

Just like the FJR the Sprint fell by the wayside compared to the Connie! 8)

I had the older 1200 Trophy, right after my 2nd C10.  It was a pleasure to ride in comparison!  Great bike but like all of them, it had its quirks too.  I have not heard or read good things on the new one yet, wouldn't go there either.  But a very nice upgrade from a C10 is the 2nd Generation FJR.  I am currently riding my 4th and love it.  Prices are going down with the 3rd gen out and doing so well now.  I have had the C14 as well and just put over a 1000 miles on my Dad's during the RWTW Rally a few days ago.  The ergo's are better for me on the FJR.  I want the new one!!!
