Most of the bolts on these bikes are Metric 8.8 which is roughly equal to SAE Grade 5 to which most of the Stainless Steel you will find is a softer grade than that. But with that being said I've been replacing the hardware anywhere and everywhere on my 01 since day one and to this day I've yet to have any issues whatsoever. Keep this in mind that while the SS you will find locally is indeed a little softer it absolutely will not break or snap it will twist instead. Also resist the urge to tighten the $hit out of SS on SS as it will gawl the threads and you will play hell getting that loose.

I replaced the allen screws that hold the 2 halves of the control clusters together because of rust. The new ones rusted even worse! SS will be the next change.

I got the SS kit from Murph years ago and love the lack of rust.  (Yeah, there are a few things on my bike that haven't rusted yet...)

Lots & lots of Stainless Steel and Alum bling as well as some real Carbon Fiber on my machine; rust is not acceptable!

Sure blig is short for bling; I thought everyone knew that?  ;)
