900 head
« on: September 23, 2011, 02:44:05 PM »
So does a 900 ninja head fit on a zg1000 ?
Are the chambers smaller to raise compression?
What about valve sizes?
Anyone had these heads side by side ?

TIA Charlie

yes.
yes, but it was designed to raise compression on the zg1000 engine, it was designed for the 903cc engine, where the swept volume was smaller. You'll see the chamber is smaller / tighter than your zg head. I cc'd them years ago, the 900 was 2cc's smaller iirc.
not sure, but iirc they're smaller by .5 or 1mm
yes.

Anyone know the whereabouts of a good video showing the zg1000 engine removal and tear down.  I removed my head to replace a valve but before I did that I searched youtube and the forums to get some help and could not find anything.

I had a 900 head, and tinkered with the idea of installing it.
At the time, I opted not to do it.  Not sure why I opted out.
  Might have smaller valves?
I think I was a bit concerned that the C-10 piston dome might touch the head as the OD of the 900 chamber is smaller
than the OD on the ZG chamber.
MORE IMPORTANTLY: The 900 head does not have the upper engine mount holes that are on the ZG.
Or, probably I was just too lazy to follow thru with the project.

I had to mention that, as wayyyyyyy back when SISF and I were doing "hotrod" possabilities, we both bought some, and I actually had photos side by side with a ZG head, all my "spares" (complete heads, assembled, for both) are heavily boxed and stored now, or I'd take more pics... but that ain't a high priority currently... ::)
