Oil filter question

My cartridge filter has the center hole more recessed on one side than the other. Which side goes where or does it make any difference?

Part #60019? At least six oil changes never noticed one side more recessed. Check to see which end has # printed on metal & put new one in same way.

Funny. The old filter is as I described, but the new filter has both holes recessed the same amount. I guess I should have looked the new one over before I posted the question.
BTW, the new oil filter is a HiFloFiltro HF401.
