97 C-10 with 71500K. Drain plug came out clean no metal. Is it magnetic to catch metal bits?

Fixed it for you. Don't know for sure, don't think so.

NO.... Stock drain plug is not magnetic. I drilled mine and pressed in some small rare earth magnets and holy crap are they strong; would pick up without a problem a 16" adjustable wrench.

Plus I come home from rides with road junk stuck under the motor!  lol

Good idea T Cro!  Funny about road junk sticking to them too, lol.

Where do you get these Rare Earth magnets?  I've never looked for them, maybe they're easy to find.

Found mine at a surplus/junk store; but they like magnets for some reason and have all sorts of them as well as tons and tons of surplus hardware. Look for .25" OD x .50" length.

BTW. Did anyone notice how I changed the OP from singular to plural on the drain plug? If the OP doesn't know, there are two drain plugs.

I just put the rare earth magnet on the head of the drain plug. It seems to be very effective. They are way stronger than a standard magnet. I put a few around the oil filter also, just because I had them. Airplane people cut filters open and look for trouble, so I thought it would be a good indicator.

I was just goofin'.

I put magnetic drain plugs on my bike at the last oil change. I'm curious to see what they caught. Hopefully, not much.  :)
