Title: French motocops vs american motocops
Post by: mellow yellow on March 19, 2020, 02:27:09 PM
Just saw a couple of youtube videos profiling french motorcycle cops. It appears that the french know how to utilize their motorcycle cops compare to their American counterparts. they not only use them for directing traffic and dignitary escorts, the're actually patrolling the streets and malls, providing ambulance escorts for critical patients when needed. They even have undercover motorcycle cops that ride in tandem to catch motorists or bikers who violate the law. I use to live in the city and the amount of times I've seen motorcycle cops, I can count on one hand, maybe 1/12 hand. it seems to be a waste of monies to keep a fleet of bikes just sitting in some stable most of the time.

Interesting as I've seen mc LEOs in my patch doing the same sorts of things as the French do per your description.....even in weather I wouldn't ride in.

I'm sorta with V'Jim on this, except for the undercover tandem stuff I've seen all that here in Fort Worth.

However I've seen some French chase videos, and to be honest I'm glad they don't do that here. (go ahead call me a twink)

Been a few years, maybe 20? Hauling butt on my C-10 from Tucson to Phoenix, a M/C cop on a Harley Police Special pulled along side and waved me over.

Not wanting to talk to Officer Law, I whacked the throttle and took the next exit. And waited...

Officer Law never passed, so I reversed my course and came upon a pile of cast iron and a person. I asked the person "what happened?" The driver said he was following a C-10 when he rocketed past me so fast that I thought my engine died, so I put my foot down.

Ignoring my story, Motorcycle cops, here or in EU, are not to be messed with.

Rick

When at University the Uni motorcycle club did an orphans day where we gave them rides on our bikes and did a little stunt show.
We had the local motorcycle police in attendance as well, also giving rides round the car park on their bikes.

As an ex-MXer I had a KTM250 that I was doing wheelies, stoppies, and jumps with (no, without pillions!!).
Then a cop came and did all the same wheelies and jumps,... on a KZ1000ST with full police fairing and boxes.  :yikes:

I spoke to him afterwards and he said it impressed the youngsters too, and in later life when they see a cop bike chasing them, they just pull over and give up as they know they can't get away. Makes sense if you think about it.

There ain't enough alcohol in the world to make me ride like that.  Very impressive.

Here's how to stop a bad guy on a motorcycle.  One of my favorite vid's:

OK Rick, so maybe I'm a twink and obtuse, but I don't understand this story.  Did the person have a car?..was the pile of cast iron the cop and his bike?...were you drinking when you typed this?  ???

Wow- I can't believe what the cops did would be legal.  From what I saw, the bad guy on the bike wasn't any immediate threat.

Well it was in Spain, so..................

Plus he had said he had a hand grenade.  Maybe that counts as a threat to the public.

eh..caught you lookin' did we pinkie?

Yeah in hind sight (<--see what I did there  ::) ), I guess I should have gone with ol' Mary Jane tinkle pants in my earlier post and just obtuse in the latter post.
However technically I didn't call myself that, I simply suggested that I might be called that, but yes I'm definitely too old.

In case anyone's interested. I saw stuff profiling motomedics and motocops in England also. it's " Emergency bikers" under "  Danger TV" on Youtube also. This is what happens when you have to quarantine yourself in the house for too long. They're definitely more conspicuous than their American counterparts.  :)

All the emergency service people over there are highly conspicuous.  You can't miss them.

UK Police bikes can be seen in the dark with a blindfold on. They are THAT bright!!

If you want to know what they ride like, read this article
https://www.rideapart.com/articles/254129/what-we-learned-from-riding-with-british-police/ (https://www.rideapart.com/articles/254129/what-we-learned-from-riding-with-british-police/)

I've done a couple of sessions with Police instructors and their attitude is that if yer gonna ride fast we'd rather you did it safely.
If you ride like a dick, they are going to stop you and at the very least you will get a long lecture.
If you ride sensibly they will most likely not stop you, even if you are speeding.
If you think you can lose them, think again. They do this for a living and they are damned good at it.
