Video: 2018 Mid Atlantic Meet
« on: June 27, 2018, 07:37:31 PM »
I spent last week down in Asheville, NC at the Mid Atlantic Meet. It is a meet for the M109R Forum. I currently have a leak from the threads on one of the fittings for my air ride on my M109. My Wife's Spyder is in the shop for some warranty work that is taking WAY too long. Since I had extra room in my trailer, I brought both the Magnum and the Connie. We had 5 ridding days there. 1 day was rained out, so I rode the Connie 2 days and the Magnum 2 days. (My wife prefers the Magnum for 2 up riding. If it was just me, I would have only took the Connie. I had so much fun riding it down there! It just doesn't get much better than a Concours on the twisty mountain roads in that area!

Before anyone questions why I trailered the bikes down, I run the raffle for the meet. I had lots of boxes for the give aways. Needed a trailer for all of that stuff alone. We also do easy ups, chairs, coolers, grills, etc in the parking lot of the hotel in the evenings after the rides. I normally bring extras for the guys that ride in. You will see what I mean in the video below.

It is just a quick edit with some video and pictures mixed in. Let me know what you think.

Looks like some beautiful country!  Out here, the hills are brown and dry.  No rain, but every day is a good day to ride.  I like the pic of the “ball and chain”!

Yeah, he is a friend of mine that I ride with all the time. He lives about 20 mins down the road from me. They got Married on Thursday in Maggie Valley. 2018 was the 11th Annual Mid Atlantic Meet, but that was the first ever wedding during the meet.

Anyone notice the radar on my phone in the last video clip at the very end of the video?

Not until you pointed it out...didja get wet? Or was that the beginning of what caused the rained out day.

Poor bunny wabbit.

Some nice lookin' M109s there.

Nice friends makin' fun of the sleeping guy. I hope he said (upon seeing that photo) "If you all weren't so boring I could have stayed awake."  ;D

We didn’t get wet. That was on Saturday and there was a forecasted 0% chance of rain that day. (Thursday was the day that got rained out) everyone left their rain gear at the hotel since it seemed it wouldn’t be needed and there is zero storage space on an M109. I had mine with me and would have continued on. We were doing the waterfall route. Everyone else decided they wanted to cut the route short and head back to the hotel. I was leading and there were comments made that there was no way we could outrun the storm. I proved them wrong!

I posted more info about the rabbit in my Angel GT tire thread if you want to take a look.

Definitely some nice 9’s there. There are some that make mine look average at best. It is unbelievable how you can have that many of the same bike in one place and other than the ones that are still unmolested (stock), there are no two bikes that look the same!

Mike, the sleeping guy, got as big of a laugh out of that picture and the rest of us.  :rotflmao:

Just curious. What did everyone think of the editing? Just wanting to get some feedback on that aspect as well. I’m thinking about possibly doing more videos on some of our rides if the editing is acceptable. I tried keeping a fast pace to the video with a mix of stills and video combined to keep it interesting. I think it is probably a little long at 6 mins, but is difficult to squeeze a week of riding into less time than that. Most of the videos I will be doing in the future would probably be day trips or weekend rides. Videos would probably fall in the 3-4 minute range.

Anyway, let me know what you think. Thanks!

I will forward it home and look at the video.  I make videos too but they tend to run long because I have a lot of content and put several songs on there.  I also make them for  my self as much as others.

I used NCH Video Pad for the first one but it got seriously flaky and I spent all my time fighting the software.   I ended up getting got Corel Video Edit which is pretty straightforward, but I don't like how you can only fade out songs in 1 second, you can't set a song fade out to 3 seconds or whatever.   What software do you use?

I got a bit fancy here, I dragged a peg in a corner and made the video song fade down so you could hear it, then rewound it, then slo mo'ed it through the corner again.  That's the fanciest I have ever gotten in a video.  I really like making videos, I spent hours perfecting it.  I need a better camera and mount, that's gonna be my Xmas present to myself.  GoPro Hero Black 6 with a suction cup mount on the side of the bike, I'm thinking.

I watched the West Virginia 250 video a few days ago. Good video! I’ve been on that stretch of 250 many times. Fun road.

The video I posted above was actually edited on my iPhone. I was just trying it out to see how well the video editing software on it worked. I thought the video ended up pretty good so I uploaded it to YouTube. Normally, I use iMovie on my Mac to edit. Been a few years since I’ve edited videos. I have a couple of good ones on my YouTube page, but they are off road videos. (ATVs and SxSs) I haven’t done any on the street until this one. I have a ton of footage from our trip to Maggie Valley last month that I need to edit and upload. Just haven’t had the time. I had 2 gopros running on that trip. An old Hero3 black and my new Hero7 Black. I had one mounted on the Concours and the other mounted on my wife’s Spyder.

On a side note, I grew up a few miles south of you in Mason County. Small world!

Mason City?  A guy that runs a local shooting event in Havana IL is there.

Oops, I said I was going to view the video and did not.  I emailed a link to it to my home email.   Hopefully tonight.

I am considering an upgrade to my camera now that I have decent software.   It seems my videos are shot in a wide angle, which makes things slower and the rider in front of me seem farther away.

Where do you mount your GoPro on your C14?   I was considering getting a suction cup and mounting in on the lower fairing or the rear bag.  When it's lower, it seems faster.

I grew up in Easton and Mason City. Still have family in both towns, Havana, and several other small towns in that area.

I mounted the GoPro on the top of the clutch Master Cylinder. Im not real happy with the results there tho. The edge of the windshield goes right down the middle of the video. I need to find another location. I am planning to us a Ram Ball Mount next. That way I can try different length arms to position in where I want it. If it works out, I may have to try my luck with AST and order a second Ram adaptor from him so I can have a Ram Ball on both sides.

The video in the first post of this thread was just my wife using her cell phone to record some video when we were riding 2up. Unfortunately, part of it was recorder in portrait view and part in landscape.

I had a RAM ball mount on my C14 clutch perch (replaced the back half of the clutch holder with a part that has a RAM mount ball on it).  I used a 6 inch arm mounted at a 45 degree angle upwards to get around the windscreen.  You can still see the windscreen but it's not bad.  Also, I just loosen it slightly and pivot the arm to straight up so it's not out catching bugs when I'm on the interstate.

Ebay and Amazon have a bazillion options for RAM mount stuff.

The downside is, that 45 degree angle combined with the somewhat flexy nature of my setup makes my video look like you're on acid (and not the good stuff either?).  I'm hoping a camera upgrade will take care of that.

I watched your video, I enjoyed it.  The only complaint is that you switched between pictures maybe a second too fast.  I found them interesting and wanted to keep looking but it flipped to the next one quickly.  Other than that, I really liked it.

OK, critique mine now. I can take it, I'm a big boy.

My Hero7 really smooths out the vibrations. It’s not like the YouTube software that makes it look like you are recording thru clear jello either. I was impressed with how well it works. Definitely worth the upgrade if you can.

I’ll have to go back and watch your video again if you want a critique. When I watched it before, I was just enjoying the ride and remembering that stretch of road.

I did the photos quick because the video was already 6 mins. Most people these days don’t have attention spans that long. Point taken tho. I’ll leave the stills up just a little longer on future videos. Thanks! I really appreciate the feedback!
