We will travelling along-sorry, in the car- the Ohio river from about roughly the OH,PA,WV borders to the West Liberty area. My question is this, what road is better, WV Rt.2 or OH Rt. 7 along the OH river? This will be on a weekday. Rt.7 looks like a 4 lane highway while Rt. 2 looks like a 2 lane stop and go through small towns, which is fine, we are looking for small towns, but not choked due to the Wal-Marts, Home Depot's, McD's, and strip malls. We'll bypass those, we just wanted to go along the river if we could.

Your take on the roads is spot on, at least from the sections that I have been on.  Ohio side is 2-4 lane, relatively flat, 55 mph with the occassional 35 mph town to cruise through.  WV side is mostly 2 lane following the contours of the hills next to the river at 45 mph, occassionally passing through towns at 25-35 mph.  Ohio side seems to have the hills set back from the river, while WV seems to have the hills right up to the river's edge.

Dave,
If you do end up going into the West Liberty area, don't miss Ogalby Park. And if you get to, get in to see one of the largest model train displays in the world. It is worth a trip. Watch those corners, they can be tricky.
Ride safe all,
Greg
Why did we have to run for cover with the promise of a brave new world unfold beneath the clear blue sky ?

I didn't realize you are only going as far south as th I-70 area.  I haven't been on the WV side north of I-70, so I take back what I said in the earlier post.  I have driven a cage on the OH side from I-70 to Steubenville and it's a pretty boring drive.

Thanks, guys, yeah, I should have mentioned I'm only going about 40 miles or so, well, initially, we may go more but we plan on staying in W. Liberty. WV sounds like what we are ,looking for Bill, and yes, hello there, haven't seen you here in awhile. Greg, when I was looking at the map, I spotted Ogleby, I remember my parents going there, we will check it out. We'd be on the bike but I'm stopping in Enon Valley, PA to pick up some lead bullets and I'm not sure the Concours bag would hold that much lead weight!

We did the drive Tuesday, Enon Valley, PA to the river, then along the river on WV #2, two lanes, nice little towns, stopped a few times, crossed back over at Wheeling and picked up Rt. 250 up through Dover and over to Millersburg. Only thing was, it was HOT. 104 or more most of the day, glad we were in the car, I would have died riding. Had a great time though, picked up a few nice road ideas and  future bike rides.
