That's exactly right Jon.    :(

Bosco looked great in those pictures.
So Conrad, are you taking the "bang stick" with you on walks now?

Jon.

That's on a 'need to know basis' Jon.   :-X

If a large dog approaches us while we're on our walk, that dog will 'need to know' and will find out the answer to that question right quick.    ;)

I swear that one of my dogs eats frankenbeans.....

But seriously it turns out that we have an aggressive boxer mix that gets loose in the neighborhood every so often. Today was my day to meet this mutt while cutting grass... He has me worried as he stands he ground and does not back off when you try to run him off. It took a rake and a garden hose to finally shoo him out of the yard. I swear that if I would have had my gun in pocket I would have thought about shooting this dog as he really worried me.

"Could" is the optimum word here.  This is were good owners of big (any) dogs come into play.  My American Bulldog is VERY well trained and extremely obedient.  Yes he will tear your arm off and make you watch him eat it when provoked.  When my wife or myself are home we decide what is "provoked'. If Chunk is home alone then your welcome to come on inside and discuss what the correct action is.  I cannot guarantee that you will both agree on the decision.
Chunk loves dogs, the smaller the better.  I think he has a big brother complex.
He is a 130lb of love and and OH SH!T this dog can run really fast  :yikes:

We have a Pit Bull in our neighborhood that bit a young boy last month and I almost unholstered my pistol when it ventured a little to close to me while I was mowing (I was about 30 feet from the dog).  My neighbor noticed that my mower stopped running and saw me reach towards my hip to pull my shirt up with my weak hand and started screaming at the dog to come back.  I told her that if she or the county won't take care of her dog that I would be happy to.   ;)

So many people are scared of my puppy cause he is a large dog.  Its the stupid people that come up and say "what a beautiful Pit, I had one that looked just like him". Oh yeah you had an American Bulldog then
Large breed dogs do get a very bad wrap and it mostly from the misinformed.  Am Bulldogs score in the top five breeds on the National temperament scale.
I agree with what has been said here.  It's the owner that makes a dog bad.

My parent's have an American Bulldog and she is nothing more than a 100 lb lap dog.  She plays with my kids and is one of the most gentle dogs that I have ever seen.  It is a shame that so many dog owners taint their animals and make them ill tempered when they could actually be a family pet.
