Bringing back an 08 C14
« on: November 22, 2013, 04:50:12 PM »
So, I am in process of re-building a crashed C14. Few things that I would like to find used vs paying new parts prices. Anyone is parting out a C14 that can help me out? This is what I need:

LOCK-ASSY, SIDE BAG, LH   27016-5355 (latch part broken)

WINDSHIELD-ASSY   55036-0005 (whole assembly was replaced by a home made aluminum bracket)

BRACKET,COWLING   11055-1804 (aluminum piece that bolts to headstock)

STAY,COWLING,RH CNUS   35063-0675 (steel bracket on right hand side, this I may be able to re-use)

COVER,INNER,RH   14092-0114 (black plastic cover on top of side fairing)

COVER-ASSY   16146-0081 (These are glove box part numbers)
COVER-ASSY   16146-0084 (Same)

DISC,FR,HOUSING BLACK+DISC SIL   41080-0102-5C (Both front disc are warped, can I use discs from other models?)
DISC,FR,HOUSING BLACK+DISC SIL   41080-0102-5C

COVER,METER   14091-0890 (outside dash cover, mine has scratches not a must)
BRACKET,METER COVER,LH   11054-1786 (little bracket that connects to left air duct)
KNOB,AIMING   92077-0015 (headlight adjustment knob has some scratches, not a must)

COWLING,LWR,RH,BLACK   55028-0200-18T (black right side lower fairing)

GASKET,HEAD COVER   (I got to fix the cover leak, this is new part buy)

SENSOR,TPMS 315MHZ   (Front was not picking up, but that could of been due to a cut wire in the harness)

HOLDER-FORK UNDER   44037-0061 (lower triples, do any other models fit?)

Thanks

Alex

The TPM sensor could be a dead battery. They are replaceable if you mess around enough. Replace both when doing new tires.

Yeah, I am not planning on repainting the bike. So keeping it silver seems a way to go

Thanks for the tip on the battery. Didn't realize they were battery powered.

Lower triples is probably the most needed item right now. 100 bucks on unknown quality ebay listings, or $420 new from discounted sites.

Here is a link for pics on replacing the batteries. There is a screw to open them below the spec sticker. You can peel it back or I just cut an X in it to get at the screw.

Forks are good, the way the bike was hit just damaged the triples. Right side is ovaled.

Interesting. How was the bike hit that the trees could be damaged without trashing the tubes?

Usually I would agree that something has to be up with the forks themselves. My hypothesis here is that point of impact was right at the lower triple. Strongest part of the fork tube is what actually damaged the inside of the triple hole. Triples are not tweaked, just the inside opening is ovaled.

Bottom line, I am not going to ride anything unsafe and will replace all parts that are showing damage, or has potential to fail. My buddy helping with the rebuild is a mechanical engineer and we both agreed that forks survived and can be reused.

Not offended at all. Glad you made me double think what I was doing. Here is a link to the re-build:
