Title: Glove Box Issue
Post by: tonedeaf on May 12, 2011, 12:49:12 AM
Looks like I get the first real beef about KiPiss. The latch on my glove box does not work worth a darn. Took it in for service, the tech says a little silicone spray will take care of it, rode away and the thing still works like crap, didn't see much point in going any further with the service guy.

Looks like the latch was designed by the Jane Goodall Simian University.

This isn't a KIPASS issue.   What year bike?

My glove box hasn't worked right since day one. Very cheap set up.
I just live with it.

There were problems with the '10 locking glove box and a few with the 08/09 non-locking.  There supposedly is a 'fix' for the locking ones that Kawi knows about.

Kawi replaced mine on my 10 with what they said was the latest and greatest. Works great now...

'10 models have an issue?
What is different and what is the new part #?

On a cold day I sometimes have to pull the plastic latch back up manually.

If you give the lid a push, from the handle bars towards the seat, while holding down the button, it will pop open.  I have that problem if I overfill it slightly.

There's a glove box?  Oh, you mean that tiny cigarette case in front of my gashole.  Never use it.

Ok, Steve, good to see you back.  Unfortunately all your pictures may not have survived so you'll have your work cut out for you.

On the '10/'11 models the glove box latch is driven by a solonoid under direction from the KiPiss system. It
is very poorly designed.

I will surely check out the fix next time I am in for service.

Mine will open with the stovekey off just by the proper wiggling of the latch.  Then when Kipass is activated with the key in the on position it doesn't want to open.

Really the only thing that hasn't worked perfect on the bike.

Mine works great since I fixed it.  The fix was completely described WITH pictures
on the old forum.  :(
