Transmission fluid to the tank ?
« on: November 07, 2012, 11:13:24 AM »
Hi !!!!

A friend of mine add 500 cc of transmission fluid to the Gas tank (BMW GS-1200)
every time he refill

According to him, this keep the valves, Gas bump and the Fuel system always lubricating.

Is that correct ?

Your friend will stand a good chance of poisoning the catalytic converter and the O2 sensor (if that bike has one), building up carbon inside the combustion chambers and spark plugs, carbon up the valves and ruining the spray pattern of the fuel injection nozzles.

Other than that, he's good to go.  :o

:yikes: :yikes: :yikes: :yikes: :yikes:   My goodness, that's equivalent to a pint!  Pints are for drinking, not putting in gas tanks.

Agreed, horrible idea.

That said, it's a common trick with diesel engines to reduce injection pump wear.

Transmission oil is for transmissions. Says it right on the label.
Put gasoline in the gas tank. (see owners manual)

Maybe he does ground aerobatics. Enough fluid burning out of the exhaust and you leave a really cool smoke trail to show where you've been.

A little bit of Marvel Mystery oil  now and then maybe, but anything else I would stay away from.

Wow, 500cc's is way too much, of any kind of oil, unless you are pre-mixing for a 2-stroke engine, with 2-stroke oil!

Oil in the fuel will also raise the combustion chamber temperature.  On 2-strokes, you can melt pistons if you use too much oil.

Certainly would NOT recommend adding any oil to the fuel on your C14.
