Radar Detector and mount
« on: November 21, 2012, 05:02:49 PM »
Unable to find pix and recommendations through the search feature about  radar detectors  and mount. What radar detector and mount ( setup) are you using? Pictures would be helpful. I would like front and rear radar detection.

I put mine on a ram mount inside a waterproof case that isn't made anymore.  I run an audio cable into a sena sm10 bluetooth transmitter into my smh10 bluetooth head set.  There isn't any way in hell you will see or hear the radar go off while riding.  I use to have a wire from the detector straight to one small speaker in the helmet, but was glad to get rid of wires into the helmet.  Here is a picture of my setup

I also have it hardwired into an aux power panel in the "glove box" on the tank.

Thanks Jerry. Was the Leo picture before or after the radar detector was installed?

I use the Adaptive TPX system and their shock mount.  Mounted on the left side handlebar controls.  Also use their LED visual alert system just under the dash, and their wireless headset inside the helmet as well.  Will try to get pics and post them up.

I use an Escort Passport 9500ix and LOVE it. Has a gps and is sensitivity auto adaptive as well as maps out false signals such as automatic doors. Not water proof so I have to take it off in the rain (I don't really speed in the rain anyway). I mounted it to the top of the front brake reservoir with Velcro and secure it with a Velcro strap over the top. Easy on easy off. I use it with a Marc Parnes Visual Alert system so I never miss an alert.

Got mine from http://projektd.com, but that site looks like it is down right now.

Or go to your local golf shop and get one that attaches to a pull cart.

I just got a C14 and am looking for a location to mount a radar detector.  Mine is not waterproof and I have to take that into account.  I have a Marc Parnes visual alert, so the detector has to be reasonably close to the mounting location. One thing to note is that radar goes through plastic, so I am considering just putting it in the glove box which would keep it dry.  If I could put keyswitched power in there and snake the line for the MP VA to a decent location, I'd be totally set.

On my C10, it was mounted on the dash with velcro with the power supply ran to the left glovebox, where I had a 3 way cig lighter splitter. Also where the GPS got power. On the FZ1, I tap into the left front turn signal/running light, so it powers up on keyswitch.  I have it mounted below the fairing, zip tied onto the central bracket that supports the fairing.  The MP VA snakes up behind the dash, very clean and works like a champ, it goes off at all the places my car's does, which has an unfettered view.  The C10 requires removal and lockup when it's left unattended, the FZ1's mounting is hidden from view and permanent.   The FZ1's is also inside a zip lock bag for moisture protection.

But what I have on the C10 and FZ1 is a horizontal surface to velcro the Visual Alert to and that is lacking on the C14.  Ideas?

Thanks
