Usually if you fully retract the handle of the riveter the shank will fall out.

It's a pain for sure but I figured out what to do to get it out easier than taking it apart.  Used a small vice grip and just 'unscrewed' it.

Rivets...the metal ones, not the noise the frogs (amphibians) make.

Bought a Tacoma Sport the end of March.   Decided to add Redline Quick Hood Lift system to the hood as it's damnably heavy as the Sport has extra stuff in it's hood.  Also the taller tires don't help.  This system has to be riveted to the hood.  Bought a nice Stanley MR77C riveter in preparation and practiced with it before hand as I haven't done much of that up to now.

Measured everything and got the holes drilled and then put the first rivet in.  All went fine and I was ready for the second one and noticed the shank of the previous rivet was still there.  Couldn't get that darn thing out.  Decided to unscrew the piece in the back and try to get it out that way...1.5 hours later it was still in.  When I unscrewed that piece a spring decided to leave in a hurry as well as all the parts therein.  Took awhile to get them all back in place.  Did the second rivet and of course that shank wouldn't come out either.  Great idea!  Use a very narrow rod to force it out.  Damn rod got stuck.  Took more time to get that out.

They say that this job takes about an hour and half to put everything in place.  It took me 4 hours to do one bracket.  I have three more to do.  I can't wait.  :_shudder_Emoticon :censored:

The 'shank' should break off and come out. If it isn't breaking off then you need to give the rivet gun a few more squeezes till it does.

An 'easy boys' or two might be appropriate.

It's breaking off ok, just that broke off piece isn't coming out without persuasion.

That won't work in this case.  There is a cone shaped gripper just inside the head piece with teeth.  I tried backing off on the spring tension but still no joy.  I'm done with that job and probably won't use the rivet gun for awhile.  The struts came out well and work great.  The last three pieces I riveted on only took about an hour after I figured out what to do with the gun.

Stanley ain't what it used to be. I have had a Marson for nearly 30 years and have had zero issues with it.

Levis are making me crazy and annoyed. I have lived in Levis for most of my 60 years. First original shrink to fit, button down 501's and now for at least 30 years, 505 zipper jeans. But about 3 years ago some marketing genus decided that one of the oldest brands which most people would link with "simple quality" would be much better by removing 2 of the belt loops, using thinner cloth and the very best part, make the pockets 1 1/2 inches shallower. Are you fricking kidding me? That puts my cell phone right at the bend when I sit down. How much do you save in manufacturing by having 2 less belt loops and a shallow pocket when considering they still charge at least $20 more than the competition for the brand? I have now sent them 2 letters and their response is "if you think they are defective, take them back to the store".

AND Levi Strauss supports gun control! I have been boycotting them for 20 years.

You should have switched to Wranglers years ago, they've always* been the better jean.    (* Jeans have a long history, always in this instance means since the early 70s when I first started comparison shopping for my own clothes . ::) I have no idea what Wrangler's stance is on gun control, nor do I care.)  I have to agree with you about customer service response, it pretty much sucks these days. I'm sure they have maybe 6 form letters to pick from to send out to the mail/email they get. I'm always surprised when I get a response that seems like someone actually read and responded to what I said rather than one that simply categorized it and sent the appropriate closest to the subject canned response. Same thing on the phone when I get someone without a foreign accent.

True enough. I think I can stick an 'Easy Boys' into anything (Easy Boys!)..... oh, hey, look at that.

Brian

Had Brian posted that, an "easy boys" would have been included.
