Want route info, Going to MOTOGP, Las Vegas to Salinas CA
« on: July 04, 2013, 11:43:47 AM »
looking at the map, I'm considering route 223 west from Hwy 58 to I-5 in order to miss Bakersfield traffic.  Take the 5 to exit #325, to Coalinga and take rout # 198 west to Hwy 101 and up to Salinas.  Are 223 & 198 good roads?  Thought I stay away from the traffic on Route 1.  This will be about 500 miles and will be packing double.  She bought the MOTOGP tickets for my birthday present.  Good Girl.  I will be glad to hear other suggestions since I've never been in this area.  Rick

My favorite route has always been 95 North to North of Beatty, Nv, then 266 West to 168 West to Big Pine Ca, 395 North to 120 West or 108 West then pick your poison from there. 266 and 168 is a really nice ride, as is 120 thru Yosemite, or 108 Sonora Pass Hwy which is my favorite of the two. Hope you enjoy the ride and the races.

The first part of the 223 from the 58 to Arvin is ok, the rest is a  boring , straight working farm road. Either on your way or back consider getting back onto the 58 at the 5. That crossing to the 101 is great! It is usually cleaner than the 198, not that the 198 is bad. If you don't mind a slightly longer route take the 25 to Hollister from the 198 then west to Salinas.
Enjoy the ride and event.
