WooHoo...Oil leak!
« on: September 28, 2013, 12:53:10 PM »
Never thought I would be so happy to have an oil leak....but as it turns out it's leaking on the front left, which is indicative of a valve cover gasket. It's a warranty repair, and it's within 1000 mile of the valve check I was planning on finally doing at 25K miles.  SO, Kawasaki will cover all the labor except the 1-2 hours to pull the cams and switch any shims.  Throw in the throttle body sync, spark plugs, and air filter. Looks to be about $200 bucks to have a valve check done.  AWESOME!!

Unfortunately I leave for the a weekend of riding in WVA on Friday and the gasket won't be in till probably Thursday.  Hoping the gasket does not totally blow out while on the road.

Cam sensor oring IMHO, not the valve cover gasket.

Are valve cover leaks worse? What needs to be done to get to the cam sensor o-ring? It's not dripping, nothing on the ground, just some on the coolant bottle and hose from the bottle and some had blown out onto the paint where the fins are.

Cam sensor tends to drip a single drop or 2 directly down onto the # 2 header pipe.
leaking that is truely on the side of the engine may actually be cover gasket.

Ah, that's good to know. This is leaking further left than the header pipes, so i think it's the valve gasket.
