My Shield 9mm has never coughed. I've even used it for training classes. I have absolute faith in it. Steve

Ditto. Great little pistol.

But to illustrate some other semiautos that aren't so reliable, I've seen some trouble -- mostly palm safety spring -- with the Rock Island Armory .45s. These were NIBs and the problem has been corrected, but still...

When I got my Keltec P11 some 10-12 years ago I went right off and did a fluff-n-buff. Since that time I have shot 500-600 rounds thru it. Never a single problem with it. No FTF or FTE, nothing. It has gone bang every single time. I hate the plastic sights but other than that it has been a great little gun.

[www.youtube.com review]

My take on his review (and his review looked pretty well done)

Advantage S&W Shield:
-----------------------------
Capacity (+1)
Grip (comfort)
Sights (metal)
Barrel (recessed)
Mag (full metal)
Recoil (less)
Slide grip (better)
Price (by huge margin)
Warranty (lifetime)

Advantage Glock 43:
--------------------------
Takedown (ambi and 1 less step)
Trigger (smoother)
Weight (2 oz less)

Conclusion- unless you are a die-hard Glock fan, the Shield seems a much bigger winner.

Great review, and it squares with my own research and personal knowledge.

I may have mentioned upthread already, but my EDC is the 9mm Shield. I've carried several types and calibers over the years, and comfort is a big deal with me. The Smith provides decent firepower, exceptional reliability, and great value in a firearm that is both comfortable to wear and to shoot.

The Shield has been my EDC for almost 5 years. I started out with the 9mm and went to the 40 shield about two years ago. Great gun.

My P11 has been very good to me. Admittedly the trigger is not the greatest and the plastic sights suck, but it is good enough for me that I don't feel the need to get another small gun like the shield. I will get a little bigger one next time, the G19.

Hey Tim,
I took a two day close quarters reactive shooting class over ten years ago and I shot my P-11 the whole time. I kicked butt
against all of the big guns that were there. After we were done the instructor wanted to know what I was shooting and was
really impressed by the little Kel Tec.

It is a sweet gun. I understand some folks have had issues with them, but I think that is the same with all guns.
