Corbin Smuggler trunk - arrived and installed, pics
« on: September 13, 2011, 07:01:34 PM »
Ok, let me first start out by saying that I am in total shock, I ordered this up a week ago and was told the standard Corbin 4 to 6 week leadtime, it arrived today!!  :o

I don't think they had it laying around from another possible canceled order because I had it ordered "slightly customized", because that's how I roll...  8)

They normally come with a "carbon-fiber look" lid but I asked them to paint the lid to match the trunk, all done in 09 black matching paint. The paint by the way came out beautiful, a perfect match to my bike!  :hail:

Here's some pics for you guys, I'm really pleased with it...  ;D

One downside I did come across putting it on is that with Phils rack on it will not clear...  :(

Luckily I still had the stock plastic rack to use for now but I'm gonna contact Phil and see if he can mod me one up to fit so that I don't have to swap racks when using my rear trunk on long solo trips, more to come on that...

It works well.  And what some people might miss is that with you sitting on the bike it will actually blend in better.  You gonna paint the luggage rack rails black?

I'm leaning that way JJ, I'll give it a few days to decide though, I wasn't expecting it to arrive so fast, thought I'd have more time to debate about it...  :-\

Yep, that's the down side.  Once you getting it to look that good, you have to keep it that way.

Looks nice, how much stuff will it hold? Can you fit a helmet in there?

Thanks Joe. No, it's too small to hold a helmet but I did fit a 12 pack of beer in it last night from the store, and this morning for the work commute I had my clear shield for tonight along with my summer gloves for later this afternoon and my lunch with still plenty of room left in it. This will be awesome for me commuting so that I don't have to run with the side bags on just to carry stuff and lock up the radar detector and gps once I get where I'm going...

+1 on painting the hand rails!  8)
Actually got me thinking of doing my 09 as well.
Hmmmm... flat black, glossy or the metal flake black of the fairing?  ???

Got to scroll back up and look at those pics again.

Not a beer drinker, but it doesn't look like a 12-pack would fit in there.  I would guess that you could fit 12 separated cans in there, but that there would not be a whole lot of room left over.   Am I correct?

Don't drink much soda, either.  So did you have to break up the 12-pack to get it to fit or not?

Very nice, ZG. Wish I had one just like it.
I would have bought one when I got my Corbin seat, but my financial advisor (aka SO) was against it.  $800 was out of my "pocket change" class. :'(
