Is there an American made digital tire gauge?
« on: December 19, 2011, 12:59:47 PM »
I got suckered again by a Google search on the above and ACCUTIRE was prominately mentioned, ordered two, one for motorcycles (90 degree head) and the other with a 45 degree head, well, both are made in China! Before I return them, does anyone know of an American made product that works on motorcycles?

Virginia Jim: Thanks, that looks like it will work for cars but I think a 90 Deg. chuck is needed for motorcycles. I will get one for the cars.

If there is one, it must be three feet long and six inches in diameter to fit all the product warning labels and disclaimers, made of titanium and stainless steel and rated to 3,500 PSI to satisfy OSHA and NHTSA, and since it would be made by union labor, it wouldn't work on weekends and holidays.  And it would only cost $317. 98.

Even this $92 Snap-On is Chinese:

Given the price, this may be US made, but they don't say.

There's always this:  MADE IN USA

The one on eBay is accurate to 1/100 psi!!!!! That would surely wreck havoc on the TPS versus temperature guys!  8)

Well, They are made in China, but since I have them I tried the 90 degree model, Accutire MS-4710B Motorcycle 5-99 PSI Digital Tire Gauge. It is handy for use on motorcycle tires such as the C-14 that are in a tight spot. The 90 degree head allows use where almost any other gauge is a struggle. If anyone finds an American made product with this feature please let us all know.

I bet a lot of those made in the USA use off shore components.

He's got the accuracy wrong, the resolution wrong, and marked it up >30% over msrp.

Phil,
I have an Accutire 45-deg head version that I've had for many years and it's never failed me on either my bikes or cars. I've never even had to change the battery. (Mine is not the talking version.) It works decently well on my Connie, but I bet that 90-deg motorcycle version would be just about perfect. If you HAD to use one that was made in China, this would be the one.

Phil,

It works decently well on my Connie, but I bet that 90-deg motorcycle version would be just about perfect. If you HAD to use one that was made in China, this would be the one.
After reading your endorsement on Accutire gauges, I did some searching.. The reviews for the 90 deg head are not very good overall. Some think it's the
greatest, others think it's crap, and the in betweens. But the majority all agree it has inherent issues. So, I searched just for the 'best motorcycle tire
pressure gauge', and Web Bike World had written a detailed review on the 'Griot's Garage Compact Tire Pressure Gauge'. I was sold on trying it out,
but it's no longer available through Griot's Garage. But I found it at Wally World, now sold with Slime's name on it. I'll be picking one up in the
next day or so. Here are the links that review the gauge, and the Wally World ad for it.
I'm sure that these are NOT made in the USA. I also want to buy products made here, and will pay more just to support our homeland, but this isn't.
