Best Seat for long trips

I'm planning a long trip to Yellowstone. Would you say the best seat for the job would be a Russell Day Long?
Are they water proof? I noticed they sell covers???
Also, I have 32" inseam, would that seat put me up any higher?

I would never put something that ugly, on a motorcycle that I own. I know they have a reputation of being comfy, but they are hideous in my eyes. I love my Baldwin saddle, it is comfy and looks good while doing so.

I have to agree with you, they are ugly. Somehow the wifey doesn't seem to care much about that. She wants comfy :)

They might be ugly but do you have eyes in your butt??   ;) They are custom made to your size so if they put you up higher it would only be a little.
When your traveling you need all the comfort you can get, nothing makes a trip better than a good seat. I have a Baldwin but I think  a Russell would be better for long rides.

Since my butt doesn't have eyes  ;)  I got the RD, I had one on my C10's also.  Best seat I have found to be able to ride all day long without ass burn.  I tried a Rick Mayer on my SV1ks, it was worse than the stock seat.

I think it is pretty damn good looking seat myself.  Not waterproof, but I did get the cover for it.

  Most agree the Russell seats are ugly but very comfortable. Seems to me the choice is are you going to be spending more time looking at it or sitting on it? In two weeks I'm going from NJ to UT, and I know my eyes will be happy looking at the scenery and my butt will be happy in the Russell saddle.

Russell makes the seat to fit you.  They won't make it higher than the stock seat if you tell them not to.  I am going to have a Russell seat made and installed sometime this year and I will not want it higher than the stock seat; like you my inseam is 32 and I am comfortable with the existing seat height. 

I have had a Russell on my Goldwing for 4 years and love it.  They did not sell/give me a cover.  They just told me not to let the seat get wet to where water sits on it.  Sometimes I throw a towel over the seat if it is raining.  It still looks like new.

For hot weather I prefer Bead Rider beaded seat, it lets air circulate under your butt thus alleviating Monkey Butt.  For cooler weather the Air Hawk works better for me and I don't end up with a frost bitten arse.

Both of these raise you abt 1/2 inch from the seat.
