Handlebar Diameter Question For Cruise Control
« on: July 24, 2011, 09:43:17 AM »
I am going to be ordering this little cruise control setup from Aerostich http://www.aerostich.com/a-to-b-utilities/rider-comfort/cruise-controls/universal-vista-cruise-control.html It's giving me a choice for a 7/8 or 1" diameter bar and I'm pretty sure it's 7/8 but wanted to double check with you guys here. I believe the area on the handlebar to mount different farkles is 7/8" no?

Thanks,

-Chris

Not to be overly picky, but that is not a "cruise control" and shouldn't be called such... it is a throttle lock.  Also, your link is broken.

I bought a Vista and tried to install it and it doesn't fit AT ALL on a 2010/2011- it is much too wide.  I looked at the pictures from other people doing it and don't see how it is possible.  So it sits in a box.

Here are a few photos of my VISTA CRUISE installation. I cut off the tab that is formed at a right angle on the bottom. I drilled & tapped holes for two #2 screws, and attached it to the throttle cable housing. I used a disk sander and slightly reduced the material from the inside end of the grip to allow more room.  The brass knob is one I made.

And for an older 2008/2009 (which I believe is pictured), that might work.  But I did not see how it was possible on the 2010/2011.  The thickness of the nylon simply does not fit in the gap... it is not even remotely close... even discounting the complexity of dealing with the heated grip flange/wiring.  I am not sure what you mean by "reduced the material from the inside end of the grip" but if that would mean bringing a sander near to and attempting to alter my brand new 2011, it simply is not an option.

I hate that I gave up, because I really need and want a throttle lock and I am not/was not pleased with the design or price of the bar-weight-end types.  Alas, I might have to break down and get one.  Damnit, Kawasaki, why didn't you offer a REAL cruise control option??!??!!!

WOW! That's a lot more involved than I would have liked.

I just ordered the Go Cruise and think that will help out. I'm not looking to spend a fortune, I'm just looking for something to take the edge off every so often.
